Miele White Star S314i Canister Vacuum Review

There are vacuums that are expensive but are worth every penny and then there are those that aren’t that different from budget vacuums. It is often difficult to know which one the vacuum you are looking at is going to be. The Miele S314i White Star Canister Vacuum comes from a really good company, but is it worth the money?

Miele White Star Canister Vacuum Product Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Canister
  • Power: 1200 watts
  • Filter: S-Class HEPA filtration
  • Dust Collection: Double layer dust bag
  • Attachments: Upholstery tool, dusting brush and crevice nozzle
  • Warranty: One year warranty, motor 5 year

For a vacuum that costs over $400, you are going to expect it to be a good vacuum and have a lot of bells and whistles. The Miele White Star has some great features, but you are going to have to decide whether or not it is worth the steep price tag.

One thing that this canister vacuum has that a lot of them don’t is the ability to “park” the wand. When you want to put the vacuum in a closet or stop vacuuming for a couple of minutes, you won’t have to balance the head and hose of the vacuum, but can attach it to the vacuum so it rests upright. This is great if you are sick of seeing your vacuum cleaner resting on your white sofa.

The suction on the White Star is pretty good, too. If you want more or less, you can adjust it with a dial on the canister. This makes vacuuming up carpet as easy as vacuuming the curtains (and not sucking them up). Here is what one Epinions.com reviewer had to say about his Miele S314i.

“It’s got enough suction to handle a shedding Norwegian Elkhound and six cats (though for some reason it doesn’t like to suck up paper clips).”

Another great thing about the White Star is that you are going to be able to vacuum whenever you want without having to worry about the noise it is making. The White Star is quieter than most vacuums, making it a great vacuum if you have children.

The Miele White Star has a Turbo powered head, that is going to spin using the strength from the suction. It is going to work on hard floors and low to medium pile carpets. If you have a deeper pile rug or carpet you might need a different model (or an upright vacuum) to get all of the dirt out from the deepest of rugs.

Another thing that isn’t that great about the White Star is the price. For over $400, you would expect a great machine (and it is a great machine) with a long warranty. The motor has a 5 year warranty, but the rest of the vacuum only has a one year warranty.

For $400 you would expect a machine that has a lot of attachments. The White Star doesn’t have any more attachments than a $75 canister vacuum, and if you want to buy more they are going to cost you an arm and a leg. Here is what one reviewer had to say:

“There are a number of optional attachments available, but most are incredibly expensive!”

Is The White Star Going To Just Put A Black Hole In Your Wallet?

For $400, you are going to have to think hard whether or not the Miele S314i White Star Canister Vacuum is worth it. Miele vacuums are typically very good machines and are going to last a long time. However, if you have carpet, you are probably going to want a more powerful machine that is designed for carpet.

Miele Art S930 Bagged Upright Vacuum Review

Getting a vacuum that looks a bit different from a typical vacuum might not be that great of an idea, unless you do your research first. Sure, it is probably going to be a conversation starter if someone catches you vacuuming, but be honest, how often are you going to brag because your vacuum looks nice?

The Miele Art S930 Bagged Upright looks different from other upright vacuums, but is it going to work well, too?

Miele S930 Art Upright Vacuum Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Upright
  • Power: 1000 watts
  • Filter: Optional HEPA filtration
  • Dust Collection: Dirt bag
  • Attachments: Stainless steel wand, upholstery tool, crevice tool and dusting brush
  • Warranty: One year warranty

If you want an upright vacuum, but a canister vacuum is more practical because you don’t have any carpet in your house, the Art by Miele is going to be a good choice. This vacuum is basically a canister vacuum that you push around. The attachments are on board, making it easier to use than most upright vacuums.

With 1000 watts of power, it could have more power, but you are probably going to find that it sucks well.  What makes the S930 easy to use is the fact that it is easier to push than a lot of other vacuums. Here is what one reviewer from Epionions had to say:

“It’s easy to negotiate around furniture and it is nice and light to carry.”

Another plus to the Art Upright Vacuum Cleaner is that it is smaller than most vacuums. This makes it easy to store. Plus, the small size makes vacuuming under furniture easier as well. The handle is going to go nearly parallel to the ground, sweeping up all of the dust from underneath a coffee table or a bed.

The final reason the Miele is a good buy is because of the way it looks. It comes in several different colors, including a lime green color and dark red, and looks pretty hip.

The Miele Art is going to be a good vacuum to buy if you have hardwood floors or tile flooring. If you have a lot of area rugs or carpet, you are going to want to try something else. The reason is that this vacuum works a lot like a canister vacuum. It just isn’t going to clean well enough to get carpets clean.

“Since I have all hardwood floors its actually works really well. But with the rugs – I need to use a heavier duty vacuum – this one just won’t cut it.”

Is This Miele A Masterpiece?

For around $200, the Miele Art S930 Bagged Upright is a nice vacuum to get if you hate canister vacuums but don’t want to blow dust and dirt all over with a regular upright. The attachments are durable, the price isn’t too high and, of course, it is a Miele vacuum. What are you waiting for?
