There are some vacuums that stand the test of time. These are the vacuums that you grew up using and that your parents (or grandparents) still have in their closets.

There are a lot of people out there who have the Oreck Vacuum Cleaner XL Classic Base Model and love it. What is most loved about this vacuum cleaner is that it is easy to vacuum with because it is so simple. There aren’t any attachments that are going to continuously fall off the machine while you are vacuuming (or weigh the vacuum down when you are trying to move it up and down the stairs).

Moving it up and down the stairs is going to be simple, because it only weighs 8 pounds. Yes, this is the vacuum that is sold on TV and used in hotel rooms all over because it is so light.

The vacuum is going to do well on carpet and rugs, picking up all of the dirt and dust in one pass. However, this vacuum cleaner has a problem with clogging. Here is what one Amazon reviewer experienced with her Oreck XL Classic Base Model.

“I love the fact that it isn’t heavy, and the suction is fine, but the design is flawed, as it clogs almost every time I use it.”

This vacuum also has a problem with the belts coming off. More than one reviewer mentioned that belts were always breaking or slipping off, and putting them back on means getting out a screwdriver and getting your hands dirty. Before you buy this vacuum, you might want to keep those things in mind.

Another thing that might turn you off to the Oreck vacuum cleaner is the difficulty and cost to buying new vacuum bags.  Sure, you are going to have to buy bags with all bagged vacuum cleaners, but normally, they aren’t going to cost you a fortune and you won’t have to go to a special store to find them. Oreck vacuums aren’t that popular, so you might end up making a special trip for the bags.

Is The Classic Going To Be Your Timeless Vacuum Cleaner?

The Oreck Classic XL Base Model is probably not going to be a great vacuum cleaner for most people. Unless weight is important to you, you are going to find other vacuum cleaners that clean up well, cost less money and work better than this one. If weight is a concern, there aren’t many cleaners out there that are lighter.
