Electrolux machines are known to be built to last, and many people still have their Electroluxes that they have had for 10 or more years.
What you may not know is that Electrolux bought out Eureka so now the companies are under the same management. Since then, the Electrolux name has seen its better days.
The big question is whether or not the Electrolux EL 5010 is going to measure up to the Electrolux name.

There are some people who don’t want a bagless vacuum because they are just a novelty. What they are looking for is a vacuum that is going to suck up dirt and dust well and clean their home.
The Electrolux EL 5010 is going to do that with its powerful motor and a 15 inch wide cleaning path. This means you are going to have to take less passes to get your carpet clean.
“Wow, what can I say, it’s light, powerful easy to use and picks up pet hair like crazy.”
Another thing that is great about the Electrolux EL 5010 is that it has a lifetime HEPA filter that is washable. Taking out over 99% of all of the allergens in the air, you are going to breathe easier with this vacuum.
This machine has a lot of extras that machines costing less don’t have, for example, variable brush roll control and the ability to vacuum under furniture by making the handle lay flat against the ground
However, a lot of people complain that the Electroluxes that are out there now are not nearly as good as the ones that they used years ago. The EL 5010 is made almost entirely out of plastic. One tumble down the stairs or even a bump into the furniture the wrong way could be disastrous.
“I purchased one of these vacuums less than 3 months ago and now see the hose is disintegrating. It has a series of tears in the folds all along the hose.”
Two weeks after I purchased this vacuum the handle came loose because of the extremely heavy weight. I tried to fix the handle but could not. I have had less than 6 months now and I have had to put duct tape on the handle to keep it together.
Does The Aptitude Live Up To Its Aptitude?
With a 3.5 star rating, the Electrolux Aptitude can’t be recommended, but you don’t necessarily have to stay away. Because it has a two year warranty, you are probably going to be covered if something happens. If you want to be extra safe, see how far you live from the nearest service center before buying it.
If you are looking for a new upright cleaner, the Bissell Total Floors Velocity is $100 cheaper and a better option.

I would have sworn on the Electrolux Aptitude b/c even though we only had a small apartment, it worked great and I loved everything about it. Well…our house is a bit larger, but still only 1800 sq. ft. and I no longer like this vaccuum. It was wonderful for the first year we were at our house and I found that we were really using all the attachments between, wood floors, carpet, small nooks and crannies, and stairs, but recently, while I was vaccuuming, about 10 minutes in, the handle started to get very warm and I noticed that it was actually MELTING! Obviously an electrical problem…..but with the extremely light use we give this vaccuum, I will say, I expected more than 4 years for $300.
