How To Control The Clutter
By Lauren on Nov 17, 2008 in Cleaning Tips
When I get home from a long day at work, the last thing I feel like doing is cleaning my house or picking up the clutter. I am constantly looking for time savers and ways to cut corners and still get the job done. Here are a few ways that I keep clutter under control and save precious time:
- Continuous clutter control - I have a basket on the stairs for each member of the family. If I find something laying around (and I choose to not actually throw it away) then it goes into the owner’s basket. Each person is responsible for emptying that basket every day. This is one way that we can all band together to keep things picked up.
- Handle each paper only once - This means that every day, as the mail arrives and the backpacks are unloaded, every paper gets sorted into one of the following places: school papers get reviewed and tossed (notifications get immediately recorded on the calendar), junk mail goes in the trash, and bills get set aside in a pile for later attention.
- Love your laundry - Set piles of each family member’s laundry in their own basket or shelf in your laundry room. Now that my kids are older, they are plenty capable of putting their own clothes away.
You’d be surprised how much of your precious time these simple timesavers will rescue. Relieving even a little pressure on a daily basis can help preserve some of your energy so you can tackle the bigger weekly chores!
