Are Bagged Vacuums Dead?

Before Dyson vacuum cleaners came out, people knew very little about vacuuming their homes without a dirt bag to collect everything. Now, more and more vacuum manufacturers have a bagless vacuum cleaner for sale and are pushing them as the best thing since sliced bread.
Does this mean that bagged vacuums are a thing of the past?

Bagged vacuums are alive and still very popular for those who are serious about vacuuming and getting a dust free house. Once you use a bagless vacuum, you are probably going to crave the simplicity of your vacuum with a bag.

Why Bagless Vacuums Are So Popular?

Bagless vacuums are the hot thing to have right now, because people get so wrapped up in the advertising that vacuum makers are doing. They think that this is something that they absolutely must have, even if there regular vacuum still has some life left in it.

Here are some of the advantages that these manufacturers tout:

  • Never losing suction
  • Never having to buy bags again (saving you a lot of money)
  • Never having to change a dirt bag again (which a lot of vacuum manufacturers make to be a lot more difficult than it really is)
  • Never having a vacuum bag break open and spill all over you
  • Having a HEPA filter to keep the air clean and free of dirt, allergens and dust

Vacuum bags are really not all the inconvenient. In fact, some companies, like Miele are making them a lot easier to change. In a lot of the Miele cleaners, the vacuum bags are going to seal automatically when you take it out of the machine, which means you just have to toss it in the garbage. You won’t get vacuum dust all over and nothing is going to come out of the bag.

Another reason cleaners with bags aren’t going anywhere anytime soon is because there are some problems with the bagless cleaners.

Why Bagless Cleaners Are A Pain In The Neck

Sure, I think that it is cool to see the dust swirling around in my vacuum cleaner, but what isn’t cool is the maintenance that you have to do on these bagless cleaners.

Here is why bagless cleaners are going to drive you nuts:

  • The dust cups are usually a lot smaller than bags, meaning that you are going to have to clean them every couple of rooms. Emptying the dust cup is sometimes going to test your patience. When they say it is as easy as pressing a button over the trash can, just remember that dust, dirt and hair is going to be falling out the bottom of the container and is going to give you a little shower of dirt and dust.
  • Emptying the dust cup after vacuuming every time is going to add a couple of minutes to your chores, especially since you are going to have to take the trash out when you are finished emptying the cup.

Do you have a bagless vacuum? Do you love it or hate it? How long do you spend cleaning your dust cup?
