Hoover SteamVac Dual V Carpet Cleaner Review

Is the second version of a product always better than the first? It is supposed to be, but with low ratings, can the Hoover Steam Vac V2 Deep Carpet Cleaner be recommended, especially with a $200+ price tag?

Hoover F7220-900 SteamVac V2 Widepath Deep Carpet Cleaner Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Upright deep carpet cleaner
  • Power: 1440 Watts
  • Cleaning Path: 11 inches wide
  • Attachments: On-board 8 foot trigger hose, stair/upholstery tool and a two-brush SpinScrub hand tool
  • Warranty: One year warranty

To be totally honest, you are either going to love your SteamVac V2 or hate it. That’s why you are going to want to purchase this carpet cleaner cautiously.

One of the biggest selling points is that it has great suction. You need good suction in order to get all of the dirty water (and clean water) back out of your carpet and rugs. The Hoover SteamVac V2 has that, although you are probably going to want to go over your carpet a second time with clean tap water in the tank to get all of the soap up. Here is what one Amazon.com reviewer said about the dry time.

“The carpets are mostly dry in about 2 hours without opening every window in the house.”

This deep carpet cleaner is going to do a pretty good job cleaning carpet and has been tested to be one of the better cleaners at getting stains out of carpet and rugs. With five removable brushes, you are going to be able to clean delicate rugs as well as ordinary carpet.

Now to what you might not like about this machine. The first is the price tag: $219 on Amazon.com. This seems kind of steep for a vacuum cleaner that only has a one year warranty.

The second minus for the Hoover F7220-900 is that it has durability issues. Looking at pictures of the machine, you are probably not going to think that within minutes of using it, it may not work.

Reviewers report that the tanks leak water, that the plastic is so thin that it snaps off, leaking more water and that the tanks are impossible to clean because they are so fragile and it’s impossible to get a brush in there to clean them out. Here’s what one reviewer said about the durability of the SteamVac V2

“It’s bad enough that I only cleaned about 150 square feet of carpet before it broke down, but I was then told (in not so many words) that because it’s a warranty job, that the service center feels that it’s not a priority.”

Is The Second Version Better?

You are definitely going to want to proceed with caution if you decide to buy the Hoover F7220-900 SteamVac V2.

Remember to keep your receipt and fill in your warranty card, because the majority of people need to send their machine in for repairs. And remember that the plastic breaking off of the machine might not always be covered under the warranty. There are other deep cleaners out there that are going to work better (and be cheaper). Buy one of those instead.

Dirt Devil Easy Steamer Review

Cleaning your carpets yourself may seem like it is going to be easy to do, but once you start the job you are going to find that you might have bitten off more than you can chew.

Getting the right machine for the job is going to be difficult to do, but finding the right deep carpet cleaner is difficult to do. At less than $100, the Dirt Devil Easy Steamer  is one of the more affordable full sized steamers.

Dirt Devil Easy Steamer
  Manufacturer: Royal Appliance
  Model: CE 6600
  Overall Rating:

  Reviews:12
  Retail Price: $119.95

Dirt Devil CE6600 Easy Steamer Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Deep carpet cleaner
  • Power: 1440 Watts
  • Cleaning Path: 12 inches wide
  • Dust Collection: 1 gallon capacity tank
  • Attachments: 8 foot hose and upholstery brush
  • Warranty: Two year warranty

Dirt Devil calls this machine a carpet steamer, but in reality it doesn’t make steam. It has a 5 row brush that is going to get spots and everyday wear out of your carpet.

What is nice about this machine is that the tanks for clean and dirty water are one gallon each. With deep cleaners that have smaller tanks, you are going to have to run to the kitchen to empty and refill tanks frequently, slowing down your progress.

Another thing that is great with this machine is the power. With 1440 watts of power, you are going to be able to get a lot of stains up. Using it is really easy to do. Just fill the tank with hot water, add some detergent and push. Everything is automatic, making cleaning up easy to do. Here is what one Amazon.com reviewer had to say about her cleaning experience using the Dirt Devil Easy Steamer

“The cleaning formula  in the box is an allergen formula and I must say that even the air in the house feels cleaner now that allergens have been removed from the carpet.”

The only thing that you might not like about the Dirt Devil CE6600 is that it is a bit difficult to push, especially when you have the water tank filled up. One gallon of water is heavy, and added to the weight of the steamer equals a lot of dead weight.

“The unit is fairly heavy when filled with water, but soon enough the lower “dirty water” holder fills, the noise of the cleaner changes, and you can empty the unit to make it lighter.”

Is It Really An “Easy Steamer”?

This machine (or any other deep carpet cleaner) is not going to be able to get every stain out of your carpet, but for less than $100, it is going to be cheaper than hiring someone to do the work for you. In fact, you can save money just by buying the Dirt Devil CE6600 Easy Steamer and cleaning your rugs one time, making it a pretty smart purchase.
