Budget vacuums seem to fly off the shelves, and when they don’t work as well as a three or four hundred dollar vacuum, people often get angry.

The Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum  is one of those budget vacuums, costing only $80, but is it going to last?

Bissell CleanView II Plus Upright Vacuum Product Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Upright
  • Power: 1440 Watts
  • Filter: HEPA media filtration
  • Cleaning Path: 15 inches wide
  • Dust Collection: Easy empty dirt cup
  • Attachments: Upholstery tool/dusting brush, crevice tool, turbo brush and extension wand
  • Warranty: One year warranty

There is no disputing that when you get this vacuum out of the box, it is going to suck a whole lot of dirt out of your carpets. In fact, you are going to know just how dirty your carpet and rugs are because it has a carpet sensor, which is a light on the vacuum that is going to change from red to green when the area that you are currently going over is clean.

With a lot of vacuum cleaners (especially the cheap ones), the manufacturers are going to cut every corner to save money. One way that they often save money is by putting a short power cord on the machine. The Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum has a 27 foot power cord, which means that you can easily do a whole room without having to unplug the vacuum.

You may also think that you get what you pay for and a cheap machine is going to be awkward to use.  With this machine you won’t have to wrestle with carrying it around or deal with on-board attachments that are always falling off.  Here is what one reviewer had to say.

“I can vacuum on all rugs, as well as on the hardwood floors. It is light, and has a nifty handle for hauling it up and down stairs as well as for cleaning them. The attachments fit right on the back and don’t fall off only to become forever lost in the closet.”

With bagless vacuums, you are either going to love them or hate them. One of the problems with the Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum is that you are going to have to clean the machine and the filters often for the cleaner to keep its great suction. This is a dirty job, but if you don’t do it, you are going to burn out the motor.

“The whole vacuum is always full of dust and requires frequent cleaning of all parts. I have a dog and cat, as well as three kids. It does not do well with pet hair and I need to take it apart to get out the pet hair after just my living room.”

Another problem with the Bissell CleanView is that it has a tendency to overheat. There are several reviewers who complain of their relatively new vacuum smoking or belts melting off of it. You definitely don’t want to leave this one plugged in unattended, just in case.

Will It Be Worth 80 Bucks?

If you want to try out a bagless model, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, this might be your best bet. The Bissell 20Q9 CleanView II Plus Upright Bagless Vacuum isn’t going to last longer than one or two years, so it isn’t that great of a bargain after all.

Bissell 1719 SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Carpet Cleaner

If you have pets or kids, you probably get spots on your carpet nearly every week. If you are sick of using elbow grease to get them out, you can spend $40 and let the Bissell 1719 SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Carpet Cleaner  have a try at it.

Bissell 1719B SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Specifications:

  • Type of Vacuum: Portable Deep Cleaner
  • Power: 9.6 volts
  • Cleaning Path: 7 inches wide
  • Attachments: None
  • Warranty: Limited one year warranty

To make it perfectly clear, this machine is going to be good at getting out spots from carpet or rugs. If you have bigger areas that you want to clean, this is definitely not going to be the machine that you want. With a 7 inch wide nozzle for cleaning, you are going to get concentrated cleaning.

Another plus to the Bissell 1719 SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Carpet Cleaner is that it is cordless. You can take it out to the car and get that peanut butter and jelly sandwich mess out of the car upholstery or do just about anywhere. You won’t have to run an extension cord anymore, because you can just take the whole machine where you want. It only weighs 6 pounds, making it really transportable. The battery on this Bissell portable deep cleaner can run for 15 minutes on a charge, so you are going to be able to get a pretty big spot out.

“Battery life is excellent — we have used this cleaner several times over the past few weeks and still have yet to recharge the battery (the instructions recommend recharging only after the battery runs down to maximize battery life).”

There are some problems with the Bissell 1719 SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Carpet Cleaner (some of them that you would expect from a machine that costs less than fifty dollars). The first is that it is difficult to put in the water tanks. You need to place them perfectly in order to get them to snap in place.

The second thing is that if you forget to empty the dirty water container often enough, dirty water is going to shoot out the vents of the cleaner. Do this often enough and you aren’t going to be able to use this deep cleaner for very long. The problem is made worse by the size of the containers. Here is what one Amazon.com reviewer says about this problem.

“Water does spit out of the motor vents WHEN the dirty water container is full (which is less than an inch in this thing).”

Is The SpotLifter Really Worth It?

Even though it has a price tag of $40, the Bissell 1719 SpotLifter 2X Portable Deep Cleaner Carpet Cleaner may not be worth it. You are probably just going to want to clean spots with a bit of cleaner, a bucket or water and a towel to blot out the excess water.
