Buying a hundred dollar vacuum is going to be one way to test your luck. You may think that a vacuum that has a four star ratings, like the Hoover 5507-900 Elite Auto-Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner, is going to be recommended, but you should definitely take a look at the bad ratings, too.

What people love about this vacuum is the price. It doesn’t seem possible to get a vacuum that is bagless with a HEPA filter. Well, the Hoover 5507-900 Elite Auto-Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner has all of that, but it might not be worth even $100.

Let’s start with the positives. It is rare to find a bagless vacuum in this price range where people comment how easy it is to empty the dirt cup. If you are looking for a first bagless vacuum to see whether or not you like them, this might be a good choice, because you aren’t going to have to inhale a dust cloud. Here’s what one reviewer said.

The canister is easy to empty and doesn’t have a filter to clog like my previous Hoover.

It doesn’t matter if you are cleaning the carpet on your three seasons room or the thick rug that you lay on by the fireplace, because the Elite has seven different height adjustment levels to get everything clean. With 1440 watts of power, you are going to be able to notice the great suction.

One of the most important distinctions (which I happen to find not such a great thing) for the Elite is the auto-rewind feature. The 24 foot power cord is going to rewind back into the machine when you touch the button. This has its positives and its negatives. Sure, it is going to be convenient, until it jams or breaks.

Now, let’s talk about what you won’t like about this vacuum. A lot of reviewers post their reviews after the first time that they clean their carpet. They pick up loads of dirt that their old vacuum cleaners weren’t picking up and are amazed. They give the vacuum 5 stars, and are happy with it for about 6 months. Then the problems start.

One problems that you are going to possibly experience is clogs. These clogs are going to require you to either take the vacuum into the repair shop (if it still under the one year warranty) or to take the vacuum apart and clean the dirt, dust and hair yourself.

Another problem that you might find is that your vacuum gets hot and starts melting the cheap plastic parts. Here’s what one reviewer experienced.

“Eventually, the plastic pieces that hold the brush into place melted and started throwing everything off balance. I went through several belts that broke before I realized what the problem was.”

If the plastic bits don’t melt off, they are probably going to break off, because they aren’t that sturdy.

Is The Elite Alone In Being A Good $100 Vacuum?

For the money, the Hoover 5507-900 Elite Auto-Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner  isn’t a terrible vacuum, but you definitely don’t want to expect it to last much longer than 2 years. If you don’t mind that this vacuum is going to only last for that long, get it, abuse it and then toss it. If you want something that is a bit sturdier, try something else.
